Pop Life: A retrospective (Written 6/20/11)

It's 3:15 am and I'm listening to my very first Backstreet Boys CD that I got back in the 90's. It's funny how I remember the tunes of the songs but not all the words. I never thought I'd forget them. It's funny how you think things will stay with you forever when you're a teenager.

I'm sitting here listening to "Quit Playing Games with my Heart"...half singing/mumbling words I can't recall and chuckling to myself remembering the music video. 5 men in their late teens and early 20's on a basketball court in the pouring rain with shirts open and white pants that turned almost innapropriate due to said rain. Totally makes sense for the song...smh lol

Still, it's pretty good music...the ballads, not the cheesy pop stuff. To think of all the hours me and my friends would spend memorizing the songs and singing them in our rooms (Laura's basement, too lol) and at sleepovers. We even made a little girl group and sang a little together, but we were all so silly about it that it never seemed to go anywhere. (I always thought I was the "AJ" of the group because I was sporty and edgy lmao! Laura was the "Brian"...naturally. Jen was the "Nick" because well...she wanted to marry Nick Carter.)

Memories like that make me smile, I guess that's what pop music is for. It might sound silly to me as a almost 27 year old woman, but at 17, God, did those songs make a shit load of sense to me.

I guess I really should lay off people like the Jonas' and stuff. We all had our "Jonas Brothers", whether we called them NKOTB, BSB or N'Sync...and for those into British pop...Five(5) and BB Mak. Five was actually pretty cool, one guy had an eyebrow ring...so edgy. And, you all know me and my bad boys...even the pretend ones lol

Anyway, I fear I will have many more nights like this as I have not gone through the crap I have in storage in like 3 or 4 years and most likely still have more Backstreet Boys junk I refuse to get rid of because they "could be worth something some day"...I say that about my damn Barbies, too (I know if my cousin Kristen reads this, she'll laugh. FN Barbies, man. lol)

Hell, a letter I wrote got published in a Backstreet Boys fan book in like 2000 or 2001 and you bet your ass I have that shit preserved lol

Is it time to let the past go? I don't know. It's still fun reminiscing.

But, just for the hell of it, that Backstreet Boys CD is in my car...just in case I drive by a basketball court on a cloudy day ;) lol
