I watched this the other and cried within the first 10 minutes. It was sad and uplifting. Somber and hopeful all at once. It just goes to show the true nature of New Yorkers. We may be viscious to visiting teams, we may be loud...but we are passionate and loyal and have so much heart, even in times of despair. I remember what I was doing on 9/11. The planes crashed just as I was changing classes. I remember how scared we all were. How sad we were for those who had lost their lives. TV was showing footage around the clock. It was nice, for just a little while, to be distracted and like they said "Get lost in a baseball game" as we all had before. That World Series made it possible for us to believe that we could go back to normal and that things really would be ok again. The Yankees aren't just a baseball team, they represent where I'm from. Hell, they represent who I am and all the good of being a American.
And being American is as simple as a baseball game, no matter what team you cheer for.
Never forget - 9/11/01
